Stop the Train!

Tuesday I experienced something unfamiliar.  I finished working at 2pm and felt completely unmotivated to do anything. I just wanted to sink into the couch and do nothing.

In the last month I’ve started 3 new classes while helping my kids transition back into school and extracurriculars. My days have been full with work and parenting from 5am when I wake up until 10pm when I make my way to bed.

Its hard to let ourselves take a break though isn’t it? I know many of you reading this are parents of 2, 3, 4 even 5 kids. I know most of you are managing growing careers. The family committments, the responsibilities of work — add in pets, a social life and desire to maintain a fitness routine and it starts to feel like you’re on a  subway train that speeding down the tracks.

On Tuesday I just needed to get off at the nearest stop. I needed a pause. I sank into the couch with a book I’ve read a bunch of times. I picked up the kids from school and parented hard for 5 hours. Then sank right back into the couch with my book. Being unmotivated never felt so good!

Do you ever feel as though you need to hit the pause button on your life - even just for a day? Do you give yourself permission to have a rest day? I’m not talking about a day that you take off from work but end up filling with doctor’s appointments. I’m talking about a day to do nothing but sit under a tree with a cup of coffee, laze on the couch in front of the TV or with a good book. To do….nothing. Guilt-free, chill out, only do exactly what you want to do. Sounds pretty wonderful doesn’t it?!

In strength and love,

KSA
